Privacy Policy

This policy covers both Kovoyo (the passenger app) and Kovoyo Driver (the driver app), together referred to as "Kovoyo," "we," or "us." It explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and what choices you have.

Who this applies to

This policy applies to anyone who uses the Kovoyo passenger app or the Kovoyo Driver app. Where a section applies only to one app, it says so explicitly.

Data we collect

We collect the following categories of data as part of operating the service:

Account and profile data. A display name and your preferred language (Arabic or French) are stored against your account.
Phone number. Your phone number is used to create and secure your account. For passengers, an account can start anonymous and later be linked to a phone number.
Precise location. While you actively use the app, we collect your device's GPS location. For drivers, this is used to publish and track the route you are driving and to connect you with nearby passenger requests. For passengers, this is used to show nearby available taxis and to determine a pickup point along a driver's route.
Trip and request data. Ride requests, reservations, pickup and route details, and trip status (for example: requested, accepted, boarded, completed, or cancelled) are recorded to operate the service.
Device notification token. A per-device push-notification token is stored so we can deliver notifications about your trips (for example, a driver accepting a request).
Driver verification data (Kovoyo Driver only). Driver license number, vehicle plate, and verified seating capacity are collected and verified by Kovoyo staff before a driver account can operate.
Administrative records. Certain account and verification actions taken by Kovoyo staff may be logged internally for accountability and support purposes.

We do not collect payment information, and the apps do not currently include analytics or crash-reporting tools.

Why we use this data

To operate the core service: matching passengers with drivers already on a route, and tracking trips from request to completion.
To verify driver identity and vehicle details before allowing a driver account to operate.
To deliver push notifications relevant to your trips.
To provide support and respond to requests, including account or data deletion requests.
To maintain the security, integrity, and accountability of the service.

We do not sell your data. We share data only with the service providers that help us run Kovoyo:

Supabase, which hosts our application database, authentication, and backend logic. Supabase acts as our infrastructure/service provider and processes data on our behalf.
Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google), which delivers push notifications to your device. Firebase receives your device's notification token for this purpose.

A driver and a passenger who are matched for a trip can see the limited trip details necessary to complete that trip (for example, a first name and pickup point), consistent with how the service is designed to work.

Data retention

We keep account and trip data for as long as your account is active and for a further period afterward where reasonably necessary — for example, to handle support requests, resolve disputes, or meet legitimate operational needs. We do not currently commit to a fixed retention period for every data type, and we do not automatically delete data on a fixed schedule. If this changes, we will update this policy.

Your choices and rights

You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time — see Delete your account for how deletion requests work today. Some records may be retained where we have a legitimate reason to keep them, as described on that page.

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your data, including relying on our infrastructure providers' standard security practices. No online service can guarantee absolute security, and we do not claim a level of protection beyond what we can actually verify.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Kovoyo changes. We will update the "Last updated" date above when we do. Continued use of the apps after an update means you accept the revised policy.
